GRiZ Prepares to Unleash the Funk on Philly

Grant Kwiecinski, better known by most as his stage name GRiZ, is an American DJ and electronic producer from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He has created an identity for himself by producing funky, electro-soul dubstep, which he describes as future-funk. Not to mention Grant implements his own unique touch by playing the saxophone.

At 27 years old GRiZ has already become a fan favorite act in the electronic community. While most DJs are placed behind a turn table and simply just hitting buttons throughout the night. GRiZ captures the live aspect of a concert which is frankly how any live performance should be. Grant primarily rocks out on his sax, weaving in and out of his funkadelic beats with the vibrant horn sounds from the saxophone.

Grant Kwiecinski, better known by most as his stage name GRiZ, is an American DJ and electronic producer from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan

This past summer Grant made major headlines when he revealed to the world that he is gay. Truly a remarkable thing when an artist as popular as GRiZ can comfortably admit his sexuality to the masses. It takes a lot of courage especially for an artist in today’s society. Coming out could potentially mean losing a percentage of your fanbase. Luckily we have artists as brave as Grant who could careless what the public thinks of his sexuality.

An awesome quote from that article was, “It might not be cool to love Britney Spears, study AP physics or play saxophone but, it’s totally cool to be gay.” Grant clearly shows how little regard he has for what society thinks about him and rather being more concerned with making himself happy. A little bit of advice and guidance we could all take to heart during this tumultuous time in our country. Here’s to GRiZ, as we are looking forward to an incredibly funky performance this Thursday. If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, make sure you grab them HERE. This is a show you definitely do not want to miss!

Philly Chefs Fight Back With Muhibbah Dinners

Name tags can be so impersonal — which is strange, seeing as they convey to strangers something intimate and individual: our names. It’s just that when you’re wearing one, so is everyone else in the room, and that kind of uniformity can feel withdrawn from any sense of diversity. But at last Monday’s Muhibbah dinner…

Win Tickets to See The Legwarmers at The Trocadero

The Legwarmers are coming to Philadelphia for a live performance at The Trocadero on Saturday November 4th and Philly2Night has the hook up! Enter below to win a pair of tickets now! Doors open at 8:00 PM and the show starts at 9:00 PM. Please note this event is 21 years and over, you must be 21+ to enter to win.

About The Legwarmers
The Ultimate 80s Tribute Band!!! Remember the Eighties? Sure, we all do…but the Legwarmers don’t just remember the Eighties – they relive them. The Legwarmers do the songs the way they were meant to be done – with a wink, a smile, and a sound that gels like Aqua Net. With more moves than a Rubik’s Cube, the Legwarmers take the stage like it’s prom night in a John Hughes movie, a very special episode of “Square Pegs” and the Monsters of Rock Tour – all at once. So remember: this ain’t no half-assed cover band, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around – it’s the Legwarmers, the Ultimate 80s Tribute Band. (Source: Here)

About The Trocadero
The Trocadero Theatre was first opened in 1870, offering musical comedies and traveling minstrel shows under the name Arch Street Opera House. Later, vaudeville and burlesque came to its stage with notable professional showgirls performing burlesque during the 1950’s. The Theatre was refurbished in the late 1970’s for use as an art house cinema and fine arts theatre. In the 1980’s, the Theatre was remodeled as a dance club and finally for its current use as a concert hall and live music venue. Although the Theatre has undergone many notable changes, the utmost care has been taken to upkeep and modernize the facility while retaining its historical character. The Trocadero is the only 19th century Victorian theater still in operation in the United States. It is listed on the U.S. Register of Historic Places. (Source: Here)

Wait, What? A Wawa in New York City?

Philly-area natives strolling through Manhattan may have done a double-take — or, perhaps, felt a flicker of hope — walking past a storefront on Bowery below Houston: In one window, there’s a familiar rising moon and loon logo, mounted on a pallet as if ready to be installed. Louis The Child is Bringing the Fire to the Fillmore

Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett happened to be attending a Madeon concert together back in 2012. Though the two attended high school together in Chicago, they were not the closest of friends. Both were self-absorbed with producing their own music and never had any thoughts of working together. But something clicked between the two while they were both at this show. Soon enough after, the duo formed and Louis the Child was born.

It was not until 2015, however, that the group really began to pick up traction. Thanks to their hit single “It’s Strange” with incredible vocals from K. Flay. This is when the buzz really began to grow around this young and dynamic duo. Taylor Swift even recognized the track and added it to one of her own public playlists. Other electronic acts were soon realizing that this youthful duo had something special about them. The Chainsmokers as well as Madeon, funny enough, would welcome the two to open up for them on their respective tours. Both being such giants in the genre which Louis the Child was gearing their music towards; fans were quickly able to pick up on the group’s music. Not to mention how relatable they felt to Robby and Freddy just being kids like themselves.

2016, was a massive year for the two. Releasing their biggest singles to date, “Weekend” and “Fire”, had the group being booked by every major festival on the circuit. I remember seeing them for the first time back at Firefly in 2016. They had an extremely early set time but their stage was jammed pack with fans waiting to sing along to their big hits. This is exactly where Louis the Child has prospered. Their unique style of future bass mixed with pop vocals has become a recipe for success. Just look at the radio today. Every single electronic dance song uses the formula in which Louis the Child has successfully found a niche in. Converting a future bass tune into a radio-friendly anthem with lyrics that anyone can feel comfortable singing along to.

Currently the two are embarking on their largest headlining tour to date. The Last To Leave Tour celebrates their latest EP, Love is Alive, as well as tons of unreleased music the duo has in store for their fans. Tickets are still available HERE, but hurry! This show will certainly sell out soon.

Starr and Olexy: We Only Paid to Make Wage Case Go Away

Yesterday, Foobooz reported that a yearlong U.S. Department of Labor investigation found that Talula’s Garden, Stephen Starr and Aimee Olexy’s farm-to-table eatery, had violated minimum wage, overtime, and record keeping laws after a former employee filed a complaint alleging that he and other staffers had been made to work off the clock. Today, Washington Square Restaurant Partners — the…

Palizzi Social Club Just Might Be the Hardest Table to Score in America

Palizzi Social Club hasn’t added any new members since landing on Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants list. The reason why — presumably — was to keep it honest. Palizzi, since its inception a century ago, was a club strictly for Philadelphians (sure, Italian-expats-only at first, but, over the years, its grown to accept members from all…

Donkey Sauce Is Just Aioli, and Other Things I Learned at Guy Fieri’s Philly Restaurant

Sometimes, celebrity chefs stab kettle cooked potato chips into half of a frozen, store-bought chocolate marbled cheesecake and call it art. Other times, they add six cheeses to macaroni. Last Friday, among other things, I learned that six cheeses is far too many cheeses for macaroni. Me and three of my friends willingly chose to take the…

Talula’s Garden Must Pay Nearly $400K for Labor Violations

It’s one of the dark secrets of the restaurant industry that cooks and other staffers are often made to do prep work — the peeling, chopping, and other tasks in the kitchen and dining room that must be done for a successful night’s service — off the clock, hours before their paid shift officially starts.…

Where to Eat This Weekend: Let’s All Go to Chinatown

It feels like that kind of weekend, doesn’t it? All of us at Foobooz World HQ think so. There’s just something in the air (or something in our appetites) that makes us yearn for slick streets, neon and some roasted duck. So we played a game. We said if we could forget all the places…

Tacos and Pizza Had a Baby in South Philly — and It’s Delicious

You can order Mexican pizza pretty late at night in South Philly, which is useful since it’s greasy and salty and has a real gift for soaking up a Saturday night. It’s a South Philly delicacy, one that passes up culinary convention for something that hits its neighbors — all of its neighbors — closer to home. Because it’s not a tlayuda, those XL tortillas piled…

Pretty much everything you know about American dining has happened in the last 20 years.
