To say we’re blown away by Brandon “Taz” Niederauer is an understatement. The 14- year old guitar prodigy has captivated audiences for almost half of his young life and will make his way to Philadelphia for a performance later this month. Taz first gained public attention at age 10, when he showed off his guitar skills on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. This would start him on a path of other televised appearances like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Good Morning America, and would eventually lead to Broadway, in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock: The Musical at only age 12.
While a child performer might seem like a gimmick, just listening to Taz talk or play will have you convinced he’s the real deal. Like his character in the musical, he takes his music education seriously – AC/DC, B.B. King, and Eddie Van Halen are some of his favorites. And just as we all dream of doing, Taz has played alongside some of rock’s greatest legends, one of the most notable being fellow curly-haired guitar player Slash from Guns N’ Roses.
As he grows into adulthood (as well as the guitars he plays), Taz’s appreciation and devotion to his craft is unwavering. Even though his schedule is jam-packed with gigs and performances, playing guitar will always be fun instead of simply a job, as evidenced by the formation of his band Lions on the Moon. If your child has shown an interest in music, we highly recommend taking them to this show on Friday, December 22 at the Foundry. Not only will they enjoy this kick-ass start to their Christmas Vacation, but you’ll definitely score a few “cool parent” points for bringing them, too.

Last Friday night Seven Lions alongside of producers Tritonal, Kill the Noise & SJ delivered a miraculous performance at Philadelphia’s premiere music venue, The Fillmore. All of the artists provided the atmosphere for a stunning night for all those who attended and one of the craziest nights in December for Philadelphia.
The Fillmore was a packed house right as Tritonal started there set. Tritonal hit the stage with some of their biggest hits and new remixes of their own. Kill the Noise provided an interesting take on remixing songs. Both Tritonal and Kill the Noise provided two very different sounds and once Seven Lions came on stage we had an electrifying combination of both. With no delay what so ever between sets Seven Lions, Tritonal, and Kill the Noise provided a night that no one will ever forget. A night of big bass drops, killer beats, and a stunning light show.
Once I arrived to the venue I could immediately feel the pulse of the beats flow through my body. You could feel everyone’s excitement within the Fillmore and it was contagious. I couldn’t help but dance myself to the beats of Seven Lions, and you couldn’t help but look up at the artists in awe as they stood on their platform above everyone else delivering an unforgettable night. As the show progressed time seem to be lost. Myself and everyone else didn’t care about what was going on around us, all we cared about was the music.

The Broken Crowns Featuring Matisyahu, Common Kings & Orphan are coming to TLA on December 16th and we’re giving away tickets to the show!

This may be the first time many Matisyahu fans will hear of Orphan, who is produced by the rapper himself. The California quartet draw inspiration from genre-defying artists across multiple generations, which attribute to their ability to draw fans from all over. This year has been particularly pivotal for their careers – their third album Lost In Paradise was a certified hit on Billboard’s reggae charts and featured a collaboration with this tour’s headliner, Matisyahu.
If you’ve ever seen GRAMMY-nominated rapper Matisyahu live, you know that his performances are more than just an entertaining night out. The Pennsylvania-born rapper burst onto the scene in 2005 with intellectual lyrics regarding his Jewish faith over traditional rock hip-hop, and jam band beats. Since his breakout track “King Without a Crown,” Matisyahu has released four studio albums (most recently Undercurrent), four live albums, four extended plays, two remix albums, and one compilation album.
Did we mention he also he’s an actor too?
Though you won’t be seeing any scenes from the silver screen, we can promise that every thought-provoking line from Matisyahu’s mouth will have you raving to all your family and friends who missed the tour this holiday season.

Original 13 Ciderworks is a welcome addition to the American Street Neighborhood, helping to revive the area into a center of industry as it once was.
Entrepreneur John Kowchak was inspired to start the business by his grandfather, who would make his own hard cider using local apples each year to give out to neighbors during the holidays. With this love for brewing instilled in him, John learned how to brew cider himself and then set out to share his passion with the rest of Philadelphia in 2015.
After troubles with owners and contract breweries, Kowchak and partner Travis Frehafer decided to take a giant leap of faith, investing all of their own money into securing their own production facility. In January of 2017, this new facility opened to the public at 1526 N American Street in Philadelphia!
Original 13 Ciderworks offers two lines of ciders: The Sir Charles American Pub cider (a contemporary American style inspired by John’s grandfather) or the more classical Heirloom ciders.
Mead, a traditional beverage made from honey is available to try in the tasting room.
Come visit the cidery, taste different drinks in the tasting room, or enjoy small plates of food with your drinks in the restaurant!

When Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran say they love 13th Street, they really mean it. The name of their restaurant and boutique EMPIRE is literally called We <3 13th Street. They’ve transformed South 13th Street from a desolate space into what is now known as Midtown Village; one the top Philly shopping and eating destinations.
Here’s the run down of their places:
Open house, interestingly enough, doesn’t offer food; but it’s a relaxed housewares boutique on the corner of Chestnut and 13th Street. Within months of opening, the shop expanded to double it’s original size and is a top spot to pick up modern decor for the home.
Lolita is a modern Mexican restaurant known for fabulous margaritas, among others. Regarded as one of the best Mexican Restaurant’s in Philadelphia, Lolita was established in 2004 and has since undergone a renovation and a reinvention of the menu with a new focus on Mexican street style foods.
Grocery is a gourmet food market that provides restaurant quality foods in an everyday market setting. Perfect for those who work in Philly to stop in for a quick lunch or for those who don’t feel like cooking dinner for the night. Try their oats in the morning with a variety of toppings, make a salad from the gourmet salad bar, try one of their daily soup offerings, or grab something from the hot foods bar.
Verde is another major point of differentiation from other restaurant groups, selling unique jewelry pieces, accessories and gifts. While you’re browsing the fashion items, you can also purchase Marcie Blaine Artisanal Chocolates, located inside of Verde. The chocolate stand features interesting flavor combinations and beautiful designs from Marcie Turney. If you don’t believe us when we say the chocolates are to die for, you may believe Oprah’s praises.
Barbuzzo is a Mediterranean bar and kitchen that garnered an award for “Best Dessert” by Philadelphia Magazine as well as a nomination for a James Beard award, among other accolades. Their salted caramel budino is inarguably one of the best desserts, if not the best dessert in Philadelphia. You won’t be disappointed with any of their savory dishes, either.
Jamonera is a spanish food and tapas joint. This restaurant is a small venue with an intimate feel, making it perfect for a date night or for catching up with a friend. Savor a plate of paella or go crazy ordering a bunch of small tapas plates. Then finish off your meal as the Spanish would, with some sweet port!
Little Nonna’s serves up your Italian grandmother’s dishes and we dare even say it might even taste better. Start with the garlic bread that comes served with a whole head of sweet roasted garlic, and then try the hearty Sunday gravy. You won’t regret it.
Last but certainly not least is Bud and Marilyn’s, the latest addition to the empire. Named after Turney’s grandparents, the restaurant is reminiscent of the restaurant her loved ones owned. It serves up simple American food that just screams comfort. Some highlights from the menu are Marilyn’s fried chicken with zucchini pickles pickles and warm biscuits, or any one of their monstrous slices of cake.

Have a holly jolly bar crawl! Running of the Santas, Philadelphia’s premier winter festival, is coming back for 2017! With 8,000 tickets sold last year, this is a holiday event you will not want to miss. Last Friday Night, the Church of House music was brought to the Electric Factory courtesy of French House DJ’s Tchami and Malaa. The Parisian artist have come together on an eleven stop tour for their highly anticipated co-headlining tour “No Redemption”. Although the two artist have two distinct styles and sounds, the duo have collaborated in their upcoming EP as they combine both their talents as they represent House music and discover a whole sounds of their own.
As my group of friends and I walk through the entrance, we immediately began to feel the bass of the music course through our bodies. We stepped to the bar as we snuck in a few last minute drinks while we eagerly awaited to see the Church of House Music meet the Streets of House Music in an epic back to back collaboration between Tchami and Malaa. Having seen both of these artist within the past year the The Trocodero, I knew going in that the duo does not hold back when they step behind the decks. The one thing I was not sure of though, was how the duos production would look when they perfomed side by side.
Well, It did not take long until I found out how this performance would look like once the stage was set. As soon as Tchami and Malaa get set behind their own set of CDJs the lights begin to illuminate the backdrops ever so slightly as they start of the night with “Prophecy”. Once the bass and drums kicked in you finally start to realize the stage has been divided into two distinct settings. On the left you saw Tchami’s signature Cathedral of House Music with a Holy Goblet next to his decks. Then on the right you see Malaa’s signature Urban/Steet style expressed as a dirty street alleyway covered in graffiti and a 40 oz covered in a brown bag next to his decks.
As the night continued not only did they play some new songs off their collab EP like “The Sermon” and “Summer 99”. The duo also took turns going back and forth as each threw down some of their own signature tracks like Malaa’s “Diamonds” and Tchami’s “Adieu”. Feeding off the crowd energy the French duo put on an electrifying performance. Track after track the crowded continued to lose it for every drop. I guess that is what happens when you throw a party somewhere in between the a church and the street. These guys are no joke when it comes to House music and expect them to thrown down some impressive performances once Ultra 2018 comes around. Until then make sure you stay on the lookout for their new collaborative EP.
