Radio 104.5 presented Alt-J at the Fillmore in Fishtown last Tuesday. Touring alongside them and opener for the night was Los Angeles based band, NoMbe. Both musicians and concert-goers arrived to the sold-out show in costumes ranging from Popeye to the Simpsons.
In spirit of the holiday, the German-born lead singer and producer of NoMbe, Noah Mcbeth mounted the stage in full Jimi Hendrix garb. The intensity of Mcbeth’s energy was evident as he sprang from the stage to sing and dance with fans in the audience. NoMbe performed some of their most popular songs including “California Girls,” and “Freak like Me.” The style of NoMbe’s music can be described as being a mix of electronic and soul.
As the opening set came to a close, the venue became packed to the fullest extent. Fans screamed as “3WW” began to play and Alt-J, the headliner, finally took the stage. The moment everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived.
The English indie-rock band presented themselves as different characters from the animated comedy, The Simpsons. Each member of the band was entirely doused in yellow body paint and blue hair. The 18-song setlist featured hits from three albums, “This is All Yours,” “An Awesome Wave” and their latest 2017 release “Relaxer.” Each song was accompanied by a dramatic arrangement of colorful light and sound.
Fans cried, sang, drank and danced through the night until the band exited the stage following their “Fitzpleasure” performance, only to return again for a 3-part encore. The night concluded with perhaps one of the most anticipated top-hit, “Breezeblocks.”
