About St. Vincent
Musician and songwriter Annie Clark – aka St. Vincent – is one of the most distinctive artistic voices and arrestingly original guitarists of her generation. Her recent album, the self-titled St. Vincent , won her “album of the year” designations from the NME, the Guardian, and Entertainment Weekly. In 2014, St. Vincent performed on the season finale of Saturday Night Live and, in 2015, she won the Grammy for Best Alternative Album. She has been the recipient of the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award and the Q Maverick award, both given for outstanding innovation in the arts.

An incredible live performer, Clark has been heralded as “the first truly 21st century guitar hero” by Guitar World magazine, and is constantly pushing the boundaries of today’s musical landscape. St. Vincent’s incomparable signature electric guitar for for Ernie Ball Music Man has been critically acclaimed by everyone from Guitar World to Vogue.

This past Sundance Film Festival, Annie expanded her creativity and vision with a filmmaking debut. She premiered her “BIRTHDAY PARTY” as part of the XX anthology. She co-wrote, scored, and directed the piece, which stars Melanie Lynskey, Joe Swanberg and Sheila Vand. Hollywood Reporter called it “most original […] with its own mad energy, quirky gallows humor and idiosyncratic visual signature,” while Variety said it left audiences “interested to see what Clark could deliver at feature length.” (Source: Here)

The Maine & Friends Put on an Electrifying Show at Union Transfer

As part of the Modern Nostalgia Tour, Night Riots, Dreamers and The Maine made their way to Union Transfer last Thursday. First to the stage was the American alternative band from San Luis Obispo, California, Night Riots.

Lead singer of Night Riots, Travis Hawley, followed their first song with a cover of “Free Falling.” The audience immediately joined in song with the band. Through their seven song set, Hawley leaded over the barricade to sing with fans. The band utilized glow-in-the-dark drumsticks and jack-o-lanterns as entertainment through performances. As Night Riots set came to a close, Hawley performed Contagious, from their most recent album Love Bloom, while laying on the stage floor.

Directly following Night Riots was the second opener of the night, Dreamers. From Brooklyn, New York Dreamers bring a taste of pop-punk to the stage. Opening with their single Wolves the crowd began to jump and single along. Much like Travis Hawley of Night Riots, Dreamers lead vocalist Nick Wold engaged the audience throughout the performance. At one point, Wold stopped to say hello to a girl in the crowd, stating that he had seen her wave at him earlier in the night when she mistakenly thought he was looking at her. Wold noted that he’d be looking at her for the rest of the night, as squalls erupted from the crowd Dreamers moved into the next song. The set consisted of 10 songs, including a cover of The Cranberries Zombie. Bringing out a tambourine, the band slowed it down with an acoustic rendition of Sweet Disaster to close the set.

After a brief intermission filled with early 2000s pop-punk music playing over the speaker system, The Maine took the stage! The set-up had been completely transformed with Red, White and Blue striped backdrops, setting the scene for a Beatles-inspired show. Each of the six band members were decked in white leisure suits and freshly shined black dress shoes. The lead performance began with The Maine’s most recent album Lovely Little Lonely (2017). The stage presence of The Maine was upbeat and fast paced. The crowd screamed song lyrics as lead vocalist and songwriter John O’Callaghan jumped and swayed around the stage with other members of the band, leaving no stage floor untouched. After completing the album in it’s entirety O’Callaghan reassured the audience that the band would “be right back,” before taking a 10 minute intermission.

After exchanging their all-white apparel for dark pants and jackets the band returned to the stage to perform their 2015 album American Candy. Although the intensity was high, the decision to play through both albums made the performance predictable, leaving no room for any “throwbacks.” O’Callaghan reminisced about an encounter the last time The Maine performed at Union Transfer, opening for Mayday Parade. “You guys suck tonight,” he laughed into the microphone, quoting an audience goer from years past. O’Callaghan thanked the crowd for coming back to see The Maine perform once more before closing out the night with the last track of the American Candy album, Another Night On Mars.

RL Grime Provides the Soundtrack for an Unforgettable Evening at the Electric Factory

Philly brought the enthusiasm and high energy last Thursday night as electronic music legend, RL Grime provided the soundtrack for an unforgettable performance. The cold weather couldn’t stop the ravers from coming out in full force, even on a weeknight. Fans packed their way inside of Philadelphia’s premiere venue, the Electric Factory. KITTENS and Graves, two rising stars in the trap genre, opened the flood gates for a night filled with heavy doses of bass music.

RL Grime, is no rookie to the electronic scene. At only 26 and with just one album released thus far; RL is poised and ready to take over the industry. Hits like “Core“, “Waiting” & “Tell Me” already have millions upon millions of plays across streaming networks. With his second studio album coming out very soon, RL Grime is currently embarking on a U.S. tour to hold fans over while they eagerly await for new music from the vet. It was apparent that Philadelphia was more than ready to get down to some trap music.

Finally the clock had struck 9:30 and it was time for the headliner to do his thing. Wasting no time what so ever, RL immediately began with his brand new single “Era” a very ominous tune with a hard hitting bass line that sent fans into a frenzy. As smoke shot through the cannons and filled the air, Grime continued to lay down each vicious drop after the next. Mixing in Hip-Hop bangers like Cardi B‘s “Bodak Yellow“, Post Malone‘s “Rockstar” & Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble” just to name a few had the crowd singing along one moment and breaking out into a dance frenzy the next. As the night continued, RL Grime took his set to new heights, literally. His stage began to ascend into the air as the Lion King’s “Circle of Life” was played for all to bask in his glory.

Enjoyment was had by all who had attended and this appeared more than evident until the finally drop. As RL finally left the stage, fans chanted and begged for an encore performance. Sure enough, he made his way back to the floating stage and performed his brand new hit single “Stay For It” featuring R&B legend Miguel. An epic closing to a wonderful night of music at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia.
